Context

Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries, with approximately 70% of its population living below the international poverty line of USD 1.90 per day, heavily relies on rain-fed agriculture, making it vulnerable to climatic shocks and various risks like floods, droughts, epidemics, pests, and earthquakes. However, obtaining humanitarian data and information management has been a consistent challenge, hindering effective response, coordination, and dissemination of information among humanitarian actors. Recognizing this, 3iSolution has been providing support for humanitarian Information Management in Malawi since 2021.

Current Projects

Strengthening Humanitarian Information Management in Malawi for Enhanced Response (SHIMMER) Project
From May 2023 to December 2023, 3iSolution supported the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), in partnership with the United Nations Resident Coordinator (RCO) and the the World Food Program (WFP) and in close collaboration and in full coordination with key stakeholders such as UNDP and OCHA ROSEA.

The project aimed first at strengthening Humanitarian Information Management in Malawi for Enhanced Response (SHIMMER) by supporting DoDMA in the response coordination of the ongoing disaster season.

Secondly, the project aimed at building capacity through training sessions for district staff in four disaster prone areas (Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe, Mulanje). The trainings seek to prepare supporting actors for future disasters response through harmonization of key information management tools and processes, and through capacity building at both national and subnational levels.

Furthermore, we are also supporting the Information Management Working Group (IMWG) and Assessment Working Group (AWG), as well as providing IM support for the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) and the Tropical Cyclone Freddy After Action report, and developing interactive dashboards to inform sector-wide activities.
Humanitarian Coordination and Information Management (HCIM) Project

From September 2021 to June 2022, 3iSolution provided HCIM support in collaboration with the UNRCO and the World Food Programme (WFP). The program aimed to strengthen Information Management coordination by improving the capacity of data producers to collect, process, analyse, and disseminate timely information to decision makers.
