3iS is an international non-profit organization that provides information management services to humanitarian and development organizations. 3iS has been working in Ethiopia since 2018, supporting humanitarian partners to improve information management and analysis for decision-making.
Scope of Work
3iS is seeking an Information Management (IM) Intern to support humanitarian data management, visualization, and reporting efforts. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in information management, data analysis, and the design of information products. The intern will assist the IM team in creating tools, reports, and visuals to support evidence-based decision-making across projects.
Main Responsibilities
1. Data Management
- Assist in collecting, cleaning, and consolidating data from various sources.
- Support the design and maintenance of databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of data for analysis and reporting.
2. Visualization and Reporting
- Support the production of high-quality infographics, charts, and dashboards to visualize project data.
- Assist in the creation of interactive data products and reports, ensuring clarity and alignment with 3iS branding.
- Help design periodic situation reports, factsheets, and summary visuals based on project data.
3. Mapping
- Assist in producing basic maps using GIS tools (e.g., QGIS or ArcGIS) for data visualization and reporting purposes.
- Support the team with geographic data organization and processing.
4. Needs Assessments and Analysis
- Help organize and process data for needs assessments and analysis activities.
- Support the preparation of presentation materials and reports summarizing key findings.
5. Capacity Building Support
- Assist in preparing training materials and content for IM training sessions.
- Support virtual or in-person IM workshops as needed, including note-taking and preparation of materials.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
Enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Geography, Computer Science, GIS, or related fields.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Canva) is a strong advantage.
- Basic knowledge of GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is desirable.
- Knowledge of tools like KoboToolbox, Open Data Kit (ODK), or similar platforms is an asset.
- Interest in learning and applying artificial intelligence tools to enhance data analysis, reporting, and visualization workflows.
Competency
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data quality.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
