3iS in partnership with Balcony and funded by Queen’s University developed and assessed whether a real-time geo-messaging tool used by migrants in Colombia generated sufficient interactions between organizations and migrants to better achieve humanitarian outcomes. The application allowed people to request help, report needs or receive alerts based on their location. 3iS created several decision-oriented products such as dashboards, analysis documents, alerts and bulletins, as well as open data and guides that helped humanitarian teams and local authorities to anticipate needs and allocate resources efficiently.
As part of this project, 3iS also coordinated and held a hybrid event titled “The Future of Humanitarian Organizations: Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Ethics in a World in Transformation”. This event brought more than 300 participants and over 70 different organizations including, international and local non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, academic institutions, private-sector partners, and technology providers together to discuss the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.
