Andrés Clavijo is an economist with a master’s degree in economics. He is a consultant specializing in data strategy, analytics, and statistical measurement for economic and social development. He currently serves as Project Manager at 3iS, where he has led the development of chatbots aimed at characterizing and monitoring mixed migration flows in Latin America. Additionally, he has implemented and supported innovative data- and technology-driven solutions for humanitarian response and crisis management in the humanitarian sector.
Andrés was the Country Director for Data-Pop Alliance, a global partnership between the MIT Media Lab, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, and ODI, focused on promoting the use of Big Data for social good. In that role, he spearheaded the first Big Data strategy for the Colombian government. He has also worked as a consultant for the IDB and ECLAC, supporting various statistical offices across Latin America in the use of administrative data (records). He served as Director of Methodology, Statistical Production, and Planning at Colombia’s National Statistics Office (DANE), where he led the design of the National Statistical System 2.0, developed alternative data management and statistical use approaches, and led Colombia’s statistical accession process to the OECD.
He is also the founder of a biotechnology venture called Sciphage, which seeks solutions to antimicrobial resistance through the use of bacteriophages.
