Tamirat Fikre Nebiyu is a highly accomplished GIS and urban planning professional with extensive academic and practical experience in spatial analytics, urban planning, remote sensing, and data science. He holds two MSc degrees: one in GIS (Netherlands) and the other in Infrastructure Planning (Germany); and is currently pursuing a PhD in GIS & Remote Sensing at Addis Ababa University.
Over the past 20+ years, Tamirat has served in leadership, consulting, and academic roles, including at UNDP, Wachemo University, and the Ethiopian Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure. He is skilled in advanced geospatial and data science tools like ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, Python, Spark, and R. He has successfully led numerous regional planning and urban infrastructure projects across Ethiopia. Internationally, he worked as a Data Associate at the University of Denver, CO, USA, and as a Transport Engineer for Africon Engineering Pty Ltd in Dubai.
At 3iS, he is responsible for tasks including but not limited to: Geospatial Data Management, Earth Observation, AI-driven Geospatial Analytics, Cartography, Knowledge Integration, and Project Management and Coordination.
